The path to wellbeing

Let’s talk about what the path has looked like that has gotten you this far; the limits you’ve been pushed to along the way, how much more you can take… Because you have had to rely on a very low fuel tank to get here, and I’m glad you’re here.

I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that those moments where you feel frozen in dark places or surrounded by a whirlwind of emotions have been signs that living out here on the edge isn’t where you are meant to be. You must feel like things just keep falling apart.

Laying a foundation

You have managed to keep it together and this is where we can start our work together. I’ve been saving you a seat at my table where people on a similar journey have started laying a foundation for the path toward inspiration and confidence.

This place is free of judgments! This place is innovative! But this is a place where people sometimes feel a little uncomfortable and vulnerable.

You know as well as I do that the magic wand doesn’t exist and there is some work to do. It may be a rocky foundation to start off, but if you’ve gotten this far then let’s keep going.

Getting acquainted

If you’ve been to therapy before, I’ve got a few counseling methods that may seem different from what you previously encountered in therapy. Regardless if you’ve been to therapy, that’s okay. Keep reading.

I want you to learn to get a feel for what it is like to work with me.

Art therapy

Art Therapy combines therapeutic techniques of counseling with the creative process of art-making. We will be looking for ways to use the art to communicate thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It’s not about skill, so leave the “I can only draw stick figures” at the door. It is just as appropriate for adults as it is for kids and teens.

As someone who knows a thing or two from first-hand experience with the “whirlwind”, I can understand how hard “keeping it together” can be. This is how I discovered the therapeutic power of making art. You will recognize a variety of materials here, and it won’t take long for you to start feeling comfortable.

I also use addiction recovery techniques which, when combined with art therapy, can also help individuals develop new coping skills and strategies to manage cravings and triggers associated with substance abuse.

Goals

Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves, though. To start us off, let’s plan a chance to meet and identify your goals. Consider the last time that you felt satisfied with where you are in life as well as your friendships and relationships. If we were having this conversation six months from now, what would you need to see to feel good about your progress?

My goal is to work together with clients to achieve their goals. I want the people I work with to see just how important overcoming emotional and mental roadblocks are to feeling motivated and worth the fight.

I want the children and teens with whom I work to see that there is so much more to who they are. I want my clients to see that they matter!

Change is possible

You may feel like I’m daring you to put yourself on the line, but I won’t ask you to do anything I’m not willing to do myself.

Change is possible! I’ve seen people slumped in the corner learn to fight for themselves. They found hope and became capable of living out their dreams.

Do you want any of these things, too? If you have questions for me, please call or email me. A consultation is free, so let’s schedule one!

About Me

As you know by now, I’m Kali (pronounced with a long a). I’m an Art Therapist, but I like to think of myself as a creative healer. I found art to be as healing for me in my journey to overcome emotional obstacles and physical pain as I’ve seen it work for others.

Thinking outside the box can be really empowering, you know, the kind of powerful moment that stays with you forever!

I’m really passionate about my ability to lend a helping hand to people who feel like their world is falling apart. As someone who is familiar with how hard it can be, I can empathize with those who are still on the journey.

Let me be your guide.

I have earned two master’s degrees in art therapy and counseling with a concentration in addictions from Emporia State University. Phew! That was a lot, but I’m proud of it!

Other than art making, some of my favorite hobbies are swimming, going for walks, watching movies, and playing games. I also enjoy spending time with my family and caring for our three cats and reptiles.
