Family Therapy

When the school calls you…

Picture this! Your cell phone begins to buzz, and the caller ID reads “Elementary School.” Your heart drops, and you just know your child has gotten into some trouble or failed to turn in homework… again…

Worse than the dread about the problems you will be asked to fix is the fear that I’m not a good parent. Is this what my child’s teacher thinks of me? Is this how my family looks at me?

Parenting is a challenging role.

Kids really know how to push our buttons. If you’re concerned about your child’s behavior, perhaps there’s more to it than a “phase” or new stage in development. Bullying is at an all-time high, and children are vulnerable to not only bullying, but other experiences that create confusion and conflict.

It can be scary for a parent to hear their child say they hate themselves or feel out of control. Nothing could be worse than doubting yourself in times like this.

What could possibly be left to try when time-outs and grounding lose their effect? How many meetings do you need to schedule with the school social worker?

Few parents can face these types of challenges by themselves. Remember, you are not alone.

Things can be better.

If you are concerned about your relationship with your child or if you feel like your best parenting skills aren’t meeting your child’s needs, we can work together to improve relationships and parenting.

You’ve been giving it your best at parenting for a while now. It’s time to find the type of support that both you and your child need.

We can work with your child to develop new and effective coping skills, while non-judgmentally exploring your techniques.
